IGN is reporting that The Division, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment’s open world, always online game that wowed audiences at e£ this year and was due for release later this year, has been delayed into 2015.
An anonymous source from within the studio speaking to GameReactor says that while the engine is nearing the completion, only a small amount of the game is created.
He said: “The fact that Ubisoft has gone public with a 2014 release date feels laughable to be perfectly honest, we will never be able to release The Division this year. It’s a large project, and we have very far to go.”
With all the delays to Ubisoft titles over the past couple of months, from The Crew being delayed to Q2 2o14 and then Watch Dogs was pushed back from the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One to Q1 2014.
This raises a few questions:
- Why would Ubisoft come out and announce the release date if the engine was not yet completed and the game had barely begun development?
- If the game has barely started development, why then were we treated to this amazing gameplay presentation at E3 2013?
IGN reached out for comment to Ubisoft who said that they do not comment on rumour and speculation.
